Development history of titanium sponge
At the end of the 18th century, the British clergyman and amateur mineralogist William Gregor and the German chemist M.H. Klaproth came from the same place in 1791 and 1795 respectively. A new element was discovered in a black magnetite sand (later learned to be titanium magnetite) and a non-magnetic oxide mineral (later learned to be natural rutile ore), which they called "Monaquin" respectively. 2) The reduction and distillation of titanium tetrachloride, that is, the magnesium thermal method, is to react the refined titanium tetrachloride with molten magnesium at high temperature to obtain sponge-like metallic titanium and molten magnesium chloride, and then use vacuum distillation to remove the sponge titanium. of magnesium chloride and excess magnesium to obtain pure titanium;
3) The magnesium chloride is melted and electrolyzed in an electrolytic tank to obtain molten metal magnesium and chlorine gas, which are then sent back to the reaction raw materials in the previous section for use.
