Rolling process and performance of titanium alloy plate

Titanium rolling refers to the structural control of metal materials on rolled parts during the rolling process to obtain plates or profiles with excellent structural properties.

The titanium rolling process utilizes the excellent corrosion resistance, mechanical properties and good plastic processing properties of titanium alloy to roll titanium alloy plates or profiles at a certain temperature to obtain the required products.

Titanium plates, also called titanium steel plates or titanium alloy steel plates, have high corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance. At present, titanium alloy plates are widely used in industrial production.

Titanium is known as "super steel" because of its excellent corrosion resistance. However, since titanium rolled plates need to be cooled during the rolling process, cold-rolled or cold-formed steel is generally used in rolling mills as auxiliary equipment related to cold bending and cold rolling.

1.Titanium alloy rolling process

Titanium rolling process Since titanium has high corrosion resistance, titanium alloys must be rolled at a certain temperature during the rolling process. Titanium alloys can be divided into many types according to different uses. For example, titanium alloys for aviation mainly include titanium-based alloys and chromium-titanium alloys: titanium-based alloys for aviation generally refer to titanium-chromium alloys (also known as full titanium steel) and titanium-nickel alloys (also known as semi-titanium steel). All nickel steel). Titanium alloys used in the manufacture of ships and aircraft are mainly titanium-nickel and vanadium alloy steels. Most of these titanium steels are produced from vanadium-containing chromium vanadium titanium (VTi) stainless steel.

2. Titanium plate performance

(1) Corrosion resistance: In seawater, the corrosion rate of titanium plates is much lower than that of other steels, so it is called "super steel".

(2) Strength and plasticity: Titanium plates have good strength and plasticity and can meet the requirements of various uses.

(3) Welding performance: Titanium alloy has excellent welding performance and its welding process is relatively simple. Manual arc welding, high or low frequency resistance welding, or brazing can be used.

(4) Toughness: Titanium alloy has very good toughness and is not easy to break under impact load.

(5) Work hardening properties: Titanium alloy has good processing properties. The required work hardening properties can be obtained through cold, hot deformation or mechanical processing, thereby improving its plasticity and strength.

(6) Stability: Because titanium has high chemical stability (almost does not react with other elements), titanium plates have strong corrosion resistance.

3. Introduction to factors affecting titanium plate rolling process

As the rolling temperature increases, the type, size and distribution of the precipitated phases in the titanium alloy plate will change, and its grain growth behavior will also change.

During the rolling process, because titanium alloy has high corrosion resistance and strong fatigue resistance, it is used as auxiliary equipment related to cold bending and cold rolling in rolling mills.

However, because titanium alloy plates need to be cooled during the production process, they are generally used as materials for cold bending and cold straightening equipment. During the cold deformation process, if the original structure of the plate is a slab structure or the slab has coarse grains, poor plate shape, or segregation, it will lead to high production costs and poor quality of titanium plates.

Therefore, rolling and annealing treatments are required in actual production to obtain better comprehensive mechanical properties and processing properties.

After annealing, the surface quality of the plate will deteriorate as the degree of grain refinement becomes higher or other defects occur (such as severe segregation, etc.). Therefore, smoothing, edge removal, deburring and other treatments are required during the annealing process to obtain a more ideal surface quality of the plate.
