Titanium alloys and tungsten alloys
With the continuous advancement of science and technology and the development of industry, two high-performance alloys, tungsten alloy and titanium alloy, have been widely used in many fields. They have attracted much attention due to their excellent mechanical properties, good corrosion resistance and high temperature performance. So, what are the differences between tungsten alloy and titanium alloy?
1.Tungsten alloy
Tungsten alloy is an alloy composed of tungsten as a base and added elements such as nickel, cobalt, and iron. Tungsten alloy has the following characteristics:
⑴High density: Tungsten alloy has a high density, usually between 16-20g/cm3, which is more than twice the density of steel. The high density makes tungsten alloy have high quality and can effectively resist external impact and pressure.

⑵ High hardness: Tungsten alloy has very high hardness, usually between 8-9 on the Mohs hardness scale. The high hardness makes tungsten alloy highly wear-resistant and can be used in high load and high friction applications.
⑶High melting point: The melting point of tungsten alloy is relatively high, generally between 3420-3800℃. The high melting point makes tungsten alloy have better high temperature resistance and can be used in high temperature environments.
⑷Good corrosion resistance: Tungsten alloy has good corrosion resistance under normal temperature and pressure, and can resist the corrosion of most acids, alkalis and salts.
2.Titanium alloy
Titanium alloy is an alloy composed of titanium as a base and added elements such as aluminum, vanadium, and zirconium. Titanium alloy has the following characteristics:
⑴Lightweight: The density of titanium alloy is low, usually between 4-5g/cm3, which is about one-third of the density of steel. Lightweight makes titanium alloys have lower mass, which can effectively reduce the weight of the structure.
⑵High strength: Titanium alloy has very high strength, usually between 800-1000MPa. High strength makes titanium alloys have good load-bearing capacity and can be used in high-stress situations.
⑶Good corrosion resistance: Titanium alloy has good corrosion resistance under normal temperature and pressure, especially in seawater.
⑷ Good biocompatibility: Titanium alloy has good biocompatibility and is widely used in medical fields, such as artificial joints, implanted stents, etc.
3. The difference between tungsten alloy and titanium alloy
⑴ Density: The density of tungsten alloy is higher than that of titanium alloy, which means that tungsten alloy is heavier and has stronger impact resistance and pressure resistance. Titanium alloys have lower density and are more suitable for applications that require lightweighting.

⑵Hardness: Tungsten alloy has higher hardness than titanium alloy and has better wear resistance. However, in some situations where good processing performance is required, the lower hardness of titanium alloys becomes an advantage.
⑶ Melting point: The melting point of tungsten alloy is higher than that of titanium alloy, and its high temperature resistance is better. However, titanium alloys have better oxidation resistance at high temperatures.
⑷Corrosion resistance: Both tungsten alloy and titanium alloy have good corrosion resistance under normal temperature and pressure, but in certain environments, such as seawater environment, titanium alloy has better corrosion resistance.
4 Application areas:
Tungsten alloy is mainly used in high load, high friction, and impact-resistant applications, such as cutting tools, drill bits, molds, etc. Titanium alloys are mainly used in lightweight, high-strength, and corrosion-resistant applications such as aviation, aerospace, and medical care.
To sum up, tungsten alloy and titanium alloy each have their own advantages and disadvantages, and the specific application should be selected according to actual needs and environmental conditions. With the continuous development of science and technology, it is believed that tungsten alloys and titanium alloys will play a greater role in more fields.
