Top ten mechanical properties of titanium

1. The tensile strength of pure titanium ranges from 265 to 353MPa, while the tensile strength of general titanium alloys ranges from 686 to 1176MPa. At present, the highest recorded tensile strength has reached an astonishing 1764MPa.
2. The compression resistance of titanium and titanium alloys is not inferior to its tensile strength, which can be called extremely strong. The compressive yield strength and tensile yield strength of commercially pure titanium are almost equal, showing excellent toughness.
3. The shear strength of titanium and titanium alloys is generally 60% to 70% of the tensile strength. This refers to the maximum bearing capacity of the material under shear force, and is one of the important indicators for evaluating the mechanical properties of titanium and titanium alloys. The level of shear strength depends on many factors, such as material type, alloy composition, crystal structure, processing technology and so on. During the processing and use of titanium and titanium alloys, shear strength is of great significance for their load-bearing capacity and durability. Through the testing and analysis of shear strength, the mechanical properties of titanium and titanium alloys can be better understood, providing a scientific basis for product design, optimization and material selection.
4. In normal atmospheric environment, the durability limit of titanium and titanium alloys after processing and annealing is 0.50~0.65 tensile strength.
5. The hardness of industrial pure titanium, the highest purity grade of titanium, usually does not exceed 120 Brinell hardness, while the hardness of other industrial pure titanium is between 200 and 295 Brinell hardness.
6. The elastic modulus of titanium brings excellent ductility and flexibility to industrial pure titanium. Its tensile elastic modulus is 105~109GPa, which means that industrial pure titanium can show good elastic response when under pressure, thereby ensuring the stability and durability of the product. For most titanium alloys, their tensile elastic modulus in the annealed state is 110 to 120 GPa, which is slightly higher than industrial pure titanium, thus further improving the overall performance of the material. Collectively, these excellent elastic modulus parameters provide titanium alloys and industrial pure titanium with excellent mechanical properties in various engineering applications.
7. Industrial pure titanium has unique mechanical properties, its torsion or shear modulus is 46GPa. In comparison, the shear modulus of titanium alloys is 43 to 51 GPa. This difference makes industrial pure titanium have better mechanical properties. This excellent mechanical property makes industrial pure titanium widely used in aviation, medical and automotive fields.
8. The yield strength of titanium and titanium alloys refers to the maximum stress displayed by the material during the stretching process before reaching the maximum tensile stress during the deformation stage. For titanium alloys, the yield strength is usually between 80-150MPa in the annealed state. This strong material is often used in applications that require high strength, lightweight and corrosion resistance, such as the aerospace, medical and chemical industries.
9. Titanium alloy shows better corrosion resistance than stainless steel in various media, and also has excellent corrosion resistance. This allows titanium alloys to find widespread use in many corrosive environments, whether in the chemical industry or in the medical field. Its excellent corrosion resistance makes titanium alloys an ideal material for components and equipment in harsh environments.

10. Titanium alloy has good biocompatibility, so it is often used to manufacture medical implants, such as artificial joints, dental implants, etc. The material's biocompatibility allows it to live in harmony with the human body, reducing rejection reactions and thereby improving patients' quality of life.
